Wedding Venues Kingston Ontario
Kingston, Ontario Wedding Venues for Micro-Weddings & Elopements
Not every wedding needs a guest list of 150, a ballroom and a dance floor.
For couples planning a micro-wedding or elopement in Kingston, Ontario, there are some wonderfully intimate options tucked throughout the city, from historic inns and private dining rooms to waterfront restaurants, university spaces and boutique hotels.
One of the things we love most about smaller weddings is that you aren't necessarily limited to traditional wedding venues. A beautiful restaurant can become your reception space. A historic inn can host your ceremony and dinner. A waterfront patio can become the setting for an intimate summer celebration. And with the right planning, even some of Kingston's larger event venues can be scaled beautifully for a smaller guest list.
As a Kingston wedding planner and officiant, we've had the opportunity to work in many of these spaces and see how they function beyond what you see in a venue gallery. Here are some of our favourite Kingston venues for intimate weddings, micro-weddings and elopements.
Boutique Inns & Intimate Wedding Spaces
The Belvedere
The Belvedere is newly renovated, close to downtown, option that works beautifully for couples drawn to an intimate, design-conscious celebration.
Its historic setting provides plenty of character and creates an atmosphere that feels special without requiring a large production. It can be particularly lovely for couples who want their wedding to feel more like an elevated dinner party than a traditional reception.
The Frontenac Club
Located in downtown Kingston, The Frontenac Club combines historic architecture with a boutique-hotel atmosphere which is set inside an old bank which mean it also has a really cool vault.
For couples planning an intimate wedding or elopement, the property offers the kind of character that makes a smaller celebration feel incredibly intentional. It's particularly appealing for couples who want to stay downtown and build their wedding experience around Kingston's restaurants, waterfront and historic streets.
Rosemount Inn
If you're looking for something romantic, historic and distinctly Kingston, Rosemount Inn is an easy one to consider.
The beautifully restored property offers an intimate atmosphere that works particularly well for couples planning a smaller celebration. Its gardens and historic character create natural opportunities for ceremonies, portraits and relaxed gatherings, while its location makes it easy to enjoy everything downtown Kingston has to offer.
For an intimate wedding weekend, it can also provide that feeling of gathering your closest people somewhere special rather than simply arriving at a traditional wedding venue.
The Secret Garden Inn
The Secret Garden Inn offers another intimate option for couples looking for something quieter and more personal.
Its garden setting makes it especially appealing for smaller outdoor ceremonies, portraits and relaxed celebrations. This is the type of venue where the surroundings can do much of the decorating for you — something we always appreciate when designing an intimate wedding.
Restaurants & Private Dining
One of the biggest advantages of planning a micro-wedding is that you can think beyond traditional wedding venues.
Kingston has an excellent restaurant scene, and several spaces can lend themselves beautifully to intimate celebrations where dinner is the experience.
Heist Restaurant + Wine Club
For couples who would rather spend their wedding day eating exceptionally well than filling a large ballroom, Heist Restaurant + Wine Club is an exciting option.
A restaurant setting naturally lends itself to a more intimate, hospitality-focused celebration. Think ceremony, cocktails, beautiful dinner, great wine and plenty of time actually talking to your guests.
For a couple with a guest list of 20, 30 or 40 people, this type of setting can feel much more natural than trying to make a traditional wedding venue feel full.
Laylow Café
For something a little more relaxed and unconventional, Laylow Café offers an intimate downtown Kingston setting worth exploring. This is the kind of space that can work well for couples who want to create something that feels personal, modern rather than following a traditional wedding format.
Waterfront Micro-Weddings
Kingston's location on the water is one of the city's greatest assets, and smaller weddings give you the opportunity to really take advantage of it.
The River Mill
Set inside Kingston's historic Woolen Mill along the Cataraqui River, The River Mill is one of our favourite options for an intimate waterfront celebration. The main dining room can accommodate a larger intimate gathering, while the Rideau Room is particularly well suited to smaller celebrations of up to approximately 30 guests. The raised outdoor patio also creates opportunities for cocktails, a welcome gathering or dancing under the stars. One of our first weddings as a coordination team took place here, so this venue holds special place in our hearts.
Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises
Why get married beside the water when you can get married on it? Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises offers several vessels and formats, including options that can work beautifully for smaller celebrations. The Island Belle, in particular, provides a more intimate atmosphere for couples looking for something different. A wedding cruise can combine ceremony, dinner, sightseeing and celebration into one experience and your scenery changes throughout the day. For couples looking for an elopement or micro-wedding that feels like an experience rather than simply a venue, this is one to put on the list.

Micro-Weddings Are Small, But They Are Far From Simple
We often hear couples assume that a smaller wedding will automatically be easier to plan. Sometimes it is. But often, it's simply different.
When you're hosting 20 or 30 people, every detail becomes more visible. There isn't a large room full of guests to absorb a sparse table or awkward transition. Your ceremony may be happening in the same space as dinner. Your restaurant may need to accommodate vendors, speeches and photographs. Your timeline might look completely different from a traditional wedding day.
That's where thoughtful planning makes a difference.
We love intimate weddings because they allow us to focus on hospitality, guest experience and intentional details. Instead of trying to fill a large space, we can create something that feels completely right for the people actually in the room.
And that might mean a beautiful dinner at a downtown restaurant, champagne on a waterfront patio, a ceremony beneath the trees at a historic inn, or an entire wedding day built around the places that made Kingston meaningful to you.
Planning an Intimate Wedding in Kingston?
Kingston is particularly well suited to couples who want something smaller, more personal and a little less traditional.
Whether you're planning an elopement for two, a micro-wedding for 20, an intimate dinner for 40 or a smaller wedding of 75, there are plenty of possibilities beyond the traditional ballroom.
At Bowtied With Love, we help couples navigate those possibilities, from finding the right venue and creating a thoughtful timeline to coordinating the vendors and making sure all the little pieces come together on the day.
A smaller wedding doesn't have to mean a smaller experience. It can simply mean more of the day is spent with the people you love.
